Training Facilities

The OKC National High Performance Center provides athletes the opportunity to train on the Oklahoma River, a site rapidly emerging as one of the premier urban aquatic venues in the world. Since its opening just a few short years ago, the Oklahoma River has hosted numerous world class events including:

2007 USA Rowing World Challenge

2008 US Olympic Team Trials – Canoe/Kayak for Flatwater Sprint

2008 USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint National Championships

2009 USRowing Men’s Under 23 National Team Selection Camp

The Oklahoma River’s 2000m sprint course and two 4000m training courses combined with the region’s temperate weather make it possible to row year round.

The Oklahoma City National High Performance Center is headquartered in the new Devon Boathouse, home of OCU rowing.  This $10 million, 33,000 sq/ft facility houses 50 ergometers and up to 100 boats including fleets of Empacher, Hudson, Fillippi and Fluid shells.  The center also features the world’s first dynamic rowing tank and offers an hypoxic (high altitude) room for training up to 12,000 ft, an indoor propulsion swim pool, a wide variety of cross training apparatus, and state-of-the-art strength and conditioning equipment.

The OKC National High Performance Center focuses improving rowing performance via sports science and performance technology, specifically, video analysis, biomechanics, human physiology, training methodology, sports psychology, and nutrition.  Sports medicine and athletic training resources are available through local partnership with St. Anthony Hospital and other medical providers.

Oklahoma City is one of the most affordable cities in the U.S., with a stable job market and housing priced significantly below the national average. Housing is provided for qualified athletes, and all athletes receive assistance in finding jobs. In addition, qualified athletes may receive tuition waivers for undergraduate and graduate programs at Oklahoma City University.

Oklahoma City has embraced the sport of rowing and welcomes athletes to the community. [directions]
