US Olympic & Paralympic Training Site
The Oklahoma River is the only river to be named a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site. The designation as a training site for both rowing and canoe/kayak was made in 2009 when leaders from United States Olympic Committee traveled to Oklahoma City for a ceremony on the banks of the river. This historic chapter in the Oklahoma River’s development recognizes Oklahoma City’s emerging role in both national and international sports, and creates opportunities for Oklahoma City to further transform the Oklahoma River into a world-class competitive and recreational center for rowing, canoeing and kayaking. Oklahoma City is well on its way to becoming an integral part of the U.S. Olympic Movement by providing America’s top rowing and canoe/kayak athletes with the best training facilities and resources available to help prepare them to perform at their highest level on the world stage.
